A new method for efficiently preparing carbon nanotube crystals using diamond wire drawing die

The research team of Sun Lianfeng, National Nanoscience Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, in collaboration with the Institute of Physics, and the Institute of Physics, developed an effective preparation of carbon nanotubes based on the preparation of high-quality carbon nanotube films (Adv. Mater. 18, 1817 (2006)). The method of crystals. They used diamond wire drawing dies to orient the monolayered carbon nanotubes in the carbon nanotube film with an increased density. Further sample analysis shows that although the diameter of single-walled carbon nanotubes in the sample cannot be precisely controlled, the appropriate growth conditions are selected to reduce the diameter distribution of the carbon nanotubes, and the maximum probability diameter of the carbon nanotubes can pass the van der Waals force. The effect is to form a two-dimensional triangular lattice (carbon nanotube crystal), and other diameter single-walled carbon nanotubes can be regarded as a defect of such a lattice. Since the distance between the single-walled tubes is similar to the spacing of the graphite layers, they first observed sharp peaks in the carbon nanotube crystals with sharp peaks close to the graphite (002) diffraction peaks. At the same time, Raman scattering study found that the breathing mode in carbon nanotube crystals is significantly different from that of raw carbon nanotubes. In carbon nanotube crystals, the breathing mode of larger diameter carbon nanotubes softens, reflecting The interaction between carbon nanotubes is strong.

This research is of great significance for the study of the properties of carbon nanotube crystals (such as superconductivity may appear after doping). Part of the results of the study were published in the March 14 issue of Nano Letters.
