The combustion heat of PVC is 19MJ/kg, so the energy recovery from burning PVC waste is also an effective recycling method. This method is mainly used in Western Europe and Japan, and the recovered energy is mainly used for power generation. However, HCI gas is generated when PVC is incinerated, and the resulting residue contains heavy metals such as lead, causing secondary pollution to the environment. Generally, a dry method, a semi-dry method, and a wet method of spraying an aqueous NaOH solution for spraying quicklime or slaked lime in an incinerator or a flue are used to remove 80% to 95% of HCl, but the utilization ratio of the alkali is only 20% to 25%. Additional treatment of the resulting heavy metal residue is required. The burning heat of PVC is less than that of PE, PS, wood powder and grease, and the increase in equipment costs makes the incineration cost higher. Therefore, burning PVC in developed countries is no longer the main recycling method. In China, the use of thermal energy for recycling waste plastics is basically blank.
