South Africa first produces biofuels from sorghum feedstock

For the first time this year, South Africa will use bioethanol production equipment to produce biofuels from sorghum. The South African Association of Food Producers believes this will bring hope to agriculture. All along, the South African agricultural sector has urged the government to implement policies that use food to produce energy. They believe that this will help farmers increase production and income. The sorghum ethanol extraction rate is the same as that of corn, but South Africa will not use corn to produce ethanol in order to avoid fuel price fluctuations affecting corn.
