According to the British "Daily Mail" report, last week, SpaceX successfully launched the "Dragon 2" (Crew Dragon) spacecraft at Cape Canaveral Air Force Base, Florida, USA.
The main purpose of the launch was to test its latest astronaut escape system. During the launch, the spacecraft will perform an emergency braking to simulate an emergency in the space capsule. Therefore, the launch did not carry people, and the only passenger in the spacecraft was a dummy.
From the spacecraft to the landing, the entire test process is shared for 99 seconds. Although it was 8 seconds shorter than the original planned time, it still showed the safety performance of "Dragon II" very successfully. "Dragon II" ignited eight Draco engines in 6 seconds, with 6 times the centripetal force and a top speed of 345 miles per hour. When the spacecraft advanced to an altitude of 970 meters above the ground, the crew cabin was partially separated from the propeller, and the two parts each fell back to the surface of the earth with the help of three parachutes. 99 seconds after launch, the crew cabin landed safely at a predetermined location in the Atlantic Ocean and was retrieved. After the test was successful, SpaceX announced the news through Twitter.
SpaceX has signed a $2.6 billion contract with NASA and began manned flights in 2017 - using the "Dragon II" spacecraft to send astronauts to low-Earth orbit and the International Space Station.
