A geothermal field was found in eastern Inner Mongolia

Tongliao City in the eastern part of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region recently discovered a geothermal field that is close to a medium-sized scale. According to energy accounting, the recoverable energy of this geothermal field per unit time is expected to exceed the energy generated by a 10-megawatt power station.

The above conclusion was drawn by hydrogeological engineering technicians on August 31 after discovering the second geothermal well in the Horqin District of Tongliao City. The first geothermal well in the same area was discovered in 2009.

According to Wang Yulong, the chief engineer of the Fourth Hydrogeology and Engineering Geological Exploration Institute of Inner Mongolia, the temperature of the discovered geothermal well is about 45 degrees Celsius, which belongs to the type of sodium bicarbonate water. The water is rich in trace elements, among which the elements of *, radium, and thorium etc. Medical spa standards can be used for bathing, swimming, recuperation, and greenhouse planting.

Wang Yulong said that the development and utilization of geothermal resources are of great significance to alleviating China’s energy shortage situation, improving energy structure and developing circular economy.

It is understood that the exploration and research work of geothermal resources in Tongliao began in 2002. After the geotechnical investigation was carried out locally, engineers and technicians thought that the Horqin District of Tongliao City was located in the Kailu Basin where 3000m to 4000m thick clastic rock was deposited. Through the temperature measurement, several geothermal anomalies were discovered and geothermal was tentatively identified. The possibility of the existence of resources.

In 2007, the technicians demonstrated and selected 2 exploration holes through the demonstration study, and conducted geothermal hole construction in 2009 and 2011.

In recent years, Xingan League, Tongliao City, and Wuhai City in the west of Inner Mongolia have all found relatively abundant geothermal resources and have attracted domestic and foreign companies to invest in development. In 2010, the city of Inner Mongolia, Inner Mongolia, signed a cooperation agreement with Xinxing Petroleum, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sinopec, and Enleks, Iceland, to develop geothermal resources in Inner Mongolia.

Geothermal resources refer to geothermal energy, geothermal fluids and their useful components that are available for development and utilization in the earth's crust under current technological and economic conditions. It is a clean energy source. Compared with traditional fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and natural gas, geothermal energy has the advantages of huge quantity, renewable and non-pollution of the environment, cleanliness, environmental protection, and local access.
