In recent years, Tongxiang City has successively changed road traditional lighting to LED lights. Last year, Tongxiang completed the energy-saving renovation of 4,427 street lamps on 63 roads, which saved 4.154 million kWh of electricity per year and nearly 4 million yuan in electricity costs.
It is reported that the total number of urban and rural street lamps in Tongxiang amounts to 42,000, among which street lamps originally used high-pressure sodium lamps and metal halide lamps, and energy-saving lamps were the main ones in open communities and small streets and alleys. Now, after the reconstruction of some street lamps, the light intensity remains unchanged, but the energy saving effect is very obvious. Zhonghua Road originally installed 118 250-watt high-pressure sodium lamps and 129 150-watt high-pressure sodium lamps, with a total power of 48.8 kilowatts. After renovation, 247 135-watt LED street lights were installed, with a total power of 33.3 kilowatts and a power-saving rate of 32.5%. Based on 11.5 hours of street work per day, the annual electricity saving is 65,100 kWh, which is equivalent to the monthly electricity consumption of 651 households based on the monthly electricity consumption of 100 kWh by ordinary urban households.
In addition, the maintenance workload is also significantly reduced. Gao Xiaofei, deputy general manager of Tongxiang Power Supply Company, said that ordinary lighting consumes a lot of electricity, has a short lifespan, and needs to be replaced every two years, while LED street lamps have very little maintenance and replacement costs within six years.
